Terminology
On the Legalesign platform, an organisation has one or more groups with reusable templates that define the fields (including signature boxes) and roles of each recipient you send a document to, with a particular experience.
Each of these means something specific. A firm grasp will help you use Console and the API effectively.
Organisation
The top-level account for a company or client. This level controls billing, compliance settings, and access to GDPR tools.
Group
Sometimes called a "team". A group is a secure collection of resources for authorised users. Your organisation can have one or more groups, each with at least one administrator. A group can control how all documents sent from it behave through its settings — for instance, one group could attach audit logs to every signing confirmation email, while another group for internal agreements doesn't.
Template
A reusable document containing fields and roles. Create a template by uploading a file (usually PDF or Word) and placing fields on it, or via the API. Templates can be set to automatically archive after being used to send a document.
Role
The part a signer plays on a template. For instance, "landlord" is a role, whereas bob@example.com is a recipient — an instance of that role in a specific document. There are three role types: signer, witness, and approver.
The sender isn't treated as a role on the document. Each role becomes a recipient of some kind.
Document
An instance of a template sent to one or more recipients for signing, witnessing, or approval. A document is created from a template during the send process, where you can alter the name and other properties.
Recipient
A person involved in the signing process of a document. Recipients have different roles (signer, witness, approver) and interact with the document according to the permissions defined by their role.
Experience
Defines the look and behaviour of the signing process, including invitation emails and the signing interface. Each recipient is assigned an experience, letting you customise the process for users inside or outside your organisation.
