What to do if an email bounces with a spam warning
When an email bounces, it goes red on your Dashboard. Click on the red item to see a popup explaining what happened.
If the email bounced because it was spam-filtered, follow these steps to improve deliverability.
1. Add a personal message
Adding detailed, personalised text makes the email more authentic and more likely to pass spam filters. See What to do if an email fails to reach a recipient for an example message and a guide on creating preset email messages.
You can use email placeholders to personalise the message with recipient and sender details.
2. Strip HTML from emails
If a personal message alone doesn't work, try removing images from emails to that domain:
- Go to Admin > Email delivery
- Add the recipient's email domain (e.g. if the email is
joe@example.com, enterexample.com) - Select Stripped HTML from the dropdown
- Click Add domain
This removes images from emails to that domain, including your logo and read-receipt tracking.
After adding the domain, send a reminder to deliver a new, more deliverable email.
3. Switch to text-only emails
If stripped HTML still doesn't get through:
- Go back to Email delivery
- Add the same domain
- Select Text from the dropdown
- Click Add domain — this replaces the existing Stripped HTML entry
- Try sending again
This sends text-only emails to recipients on that domain. If that still fails, contact support.
