Field types and content formats reference

Use this page as a lookup guide for Web App field behavior in template preparation.

It is intended to answer questions like:

  • what field types are available
  • where key settings live in the field properties panel
  • which content formats exist for date and upload fields
  • when to use sender fields, signer fields, labels, and field order

For the full workflow, use Template Preparation.

Field property areas

When you select a field in template preparation, the right-hand settings panel is split into these areas:

  • Designations: assignee and field type
  • Content: label, content format, and placeholder or default content
  • Format: font, font size, and text alignment
  • Placement: alignment and positioning
  • Dimensions: resizing and scale controls
  • Advanced: field order, forms logic values, and exclude-from-PDF behavior

Core field assignments

Sender fields

Sender fields are completed during sending rather than by a recipient. Use them when the template should stay reusable but some values need to be filled in at dispatch time.

Use:

Signer fields

Signer fields are completed by the assigned participant during signing or approval. Signature and initials fields are special signer-facing field types.

Labels

Labels help senders and recipients identify fields clearly on the setup and signing pages.

Use:

Field order

Field order controls the sequence in which senders and recipients move through fields. Without explicit field order, progression follows the page layout from top to bottom and then left to right.

Common field operations

Content formats

Content formats control how a field accepts or displays values.

Auto-date formats

Auto-date fields can be applied for the sender or signer and support these formats:

  1. dd/mm/yyyy
  2. yyyy/mm/dd
  3. yy/mm/dd
  4. dd/mm/yy
  5. mm/dd/yyyy
  6. mm/dd/yy
  7. yyyy.mm.dd
  8. yy.mm.dd
  9. dd.mm.yyyy
  10. dd.mm.yy
  11. mm.dd.yyyy
  12. mm.dd.yy
  13. yyyy-mm-dd
  14. yy-mm-dd
  15. dd-mm-yyyy
  16. dd-mm-yy
  17. mm-dd-yyyy
  18. mm-dd-yy
  19. d mmmm yyyy

Use:

File upload formats

File upload fields support these delivery modes:

  • Attach to confirmatory email: sends the uploaded file to the sender as an email attachment
  • Append to PDF, PDF files only: appends the uploaded PDF to the completed document
  • Zip with PDF: compresses uploads into a ZIP and sends them to the sender

Special field behaviors

Text tags

If you generate fields from source-document tags instead of placing them manually, use:

Exclude from PDF

Some fields are only useful during setup or signing flow and should not appear on the final PDF.

Use:

Forms logic

Conditional behavior and linked logic settings are configured through forms logic fields and advanced settings.
